Year 2 Collaborative Project

Statuesque

A collection inspired by the opposing dualities of feminine-masculine, angular-circular, tailoring-dressmaking, and the constraint of brutalist architecture and the drape of fabric. This is an industry collaborative project with the minimalist womenswear brand, Studio Amelia.

For this project I was primarily influenced by the work of Marc Jacobs, Seymour Lipton, and Stephane Rolland.

I kept the color story and fabrics cohesive with the ideals and aesthetics of Studio Amelia while also having my own fingerprint intertwined. The color story fades from white to black with cascading tones of gray and pale nudes, with textural accents. The fabrics consist of several weights of wool, silk drapes, and cotton jerseys.

The look I chose to create touches both ends of the binaries in my research and suited both my aesthetic and the brief. It consists of a deep V-neck dress with a large drape across the body and one arm. It is styled with a wool cape that takes patterning inspiration from Balenciaga’s one seam coat as this cape only has a shoulder seam and ‘yoke dart.’ It uses tailoring pressing techniques to work the wool to be self-standing at the neckline.
